 In 1994, the former Ministry of Chemical Industry authorized our university to establish the faculty of economic law. Thus, in 1995 the former Department of Social Sciences set up the teaching and research section of economic law when 35 undergraduates enrolled in. From 1996 to 1998, there were about 60 undergraduate enrollments. At the same time, all the undergraduates in our university can take economic law as their minor. In 1999, the faculty of economic law was then transformed to the faculty of law. Since then, the undergraduate enrollment has stabilized at around 120 students. The permission of masters’ degree in civil and commercial law was authorized by the Ministry of Education in 2006. Since 2007, some 40 postgraduates have been admitted. In 2009, the postgraduate program of engineering management began to admit students researching in the management of intellectual property. The scale is about 10 students every year. In 2011, the Law Department obtained the grant of master degree of law in first-level discipline. Since 2012, the Law Department has granted master degree in four sub-fields of law: Jurisprudence, Civil and Commercial Law, Economic Law and Intellectual Property Law. And in the same year, all students can have a double major of intellectual property if they chose to. In 2013, the Beijing Municipal Education Commission authorized our Department to begin the construction of a special major.
In the cultivation of students, the core value and direction is the cultivation of excellent law professionals. The theory goes as follows: individualized instruction, classified training, universal talent and excellence pursuit. Combined with the reality of our Law Department and the demand of our society, “3M” mode has been established which aims at cultivate talents at multi-levels and multi-types and multi-path.
After years of construction, the faculty of the Law Department has formed a reasonable structure. Our faculties are active in academic thinking and excellent in comprehensive caliber. There are 41 full-time teachers, among whom 27 have senior titles and 20 are PhD. In addition, there are part-time professors and tutors who have obtained prominent achievement both in research and practice. Through the endeavors of our faculty, the curriculum of Economic Law and Jurisprudence are successively named as university-level.
 In order to adapt to economic globalization, the experimental class was founded in 2008. This aims to cultivate interdisciplinary talents who have a good grasp of law and English as well as science and technology. A number of compulsive and selective classes in English and Legal English are offered. In 2011, 3+1+1 program was founded with University College Dublin. In 2012, 3+2 program was founded with University of Leicester.
Regarding the non experimental class students, the focus lies in the cultivation of theoretical application. 30 grades curriculum are offered. And in 2007, the teaching center for the Law Department was founded which covers the teaching and research section,  moot court laboratory, legal clinic laboratory and the intellectual property laboratory. At present, courts in Chaoyang District and Xicheng District and law firms such as Yucheng, Zhongkai,Yingke, and Tengyue have been the off-campus internship base. In 2013, the internship base of the Chaoyang People’s Court are authorized to be constructed as a municipal level base.
 In 2009, in order to make use of the edge of chemistry and intellectual property  of our university , the Beijing Intellectual Property Rights Study Base was officially established in our university. This base is comprehensive and interdisciplinary, which covers teaching, research, training and consulting. Dean of the Humanities and Law School, Professor Fu Yulong was appointed as the director.
 The rate of employment has always been 95% or above. The employment prospect is bright. And some students are admitted to postgraduate programs, which covers about 25%. And in 2013, this rate arrives at 32%. Furthermore, there are more and more students going abroad. Those excellent graduates are greatly praised by employers.
The Law Department is intent to become a first-class model in universities of science and technology and foster talents who have great competitiveness and in line with the demands of our construction of socialist country under the rule of law.
